When building a high-performance Mercury Racing 2.0, 2.4, or 2.5 Liter V6, few components are more critical than the connecting rod bolts. Every time the piston changes direction at top dead center, the rod bolts are in subjected to enormous tensile loads.
As engine speed increases, these forces rise dramatically, making rod bolt strength one of the most important factors in the reliability of the rotating assembly.
Buckshot Racing #77 offers two genuine ARP L19 rod bolt options for Mercury Racing and Mercury High-Performance V6 engines. Manufactured from ultra-high-strength ARP L19 material, these bolts provide approximately 260,000–280,000 PSI tensile strength, substantially exceeding conventional performance fasteners and delivering an additional margin of safety for high-RPM two-stroke applications.
These rod bolts are commonly used in Mercury Racing 245 HP Carb, 260 EFI, 280 ROS, 300 Drag, S3000, Formula 1, F1H20, AUS F1, US F1, and SST-120 engines, as well as numerous offshore, drag-racing, lake-racing, and custom-built Mercury V6 performance engines. These applications routinely operate at elevated RPM, where rod bolt integrity becomes increasingly important.
Why ARP L19 Rod Bolts Matter
Rod bolt failures are among the most destructive failures that can occur inside a two-stroke performance engine. If a rod bolt loses clamp load or breaks, the connecting rod can separate from the crankshaft and cause catastrophic damage to the block, crankshaft, pistons, cylinders, and crankcase.
The exceptional strength and fatigue resistance of ARP L19 material helps maintain clamp load under extreme RPM, rapid acceleration, hard deceleration, and the shock loads that can occur when a piston begins to scuff, stick, or seize. In many cases, stronger rod bolts can help reduce the likelihood of a minor issue escalating into a complete powerhead failure.
For serious Mercury Racing engine builders, ARP L19 rod bolts remain one of the most trusted and proven upgrades available.
Option 1 (848475) — ARP L19 Rod Bolts Mercury OEM Part Number 10-848475 for 818141 Top-Guided Rods
The 10-848475 ARP L19 Rod Bolt is designed for Mercury's popular 818141 top-guided connecting rods, one of the most widely used rod designs found in Mercury Racing 2.5-liter engines.
This fastener features a 12-point 3/8-inch socket head and measures approximately 7/8-inch overall length. The shorter length is specific to the 818141 rod assembly and provides the proper thread engagement and clamp load required for high-RPM operation.
The 818141 rod became a staple of Mercury Racing Formula 1, SST-120, 260 EFI, 280 ROS, S3000, and 300 Drag engine programs, making the 10-848475 one of the most recognized rod bolt upgrades available for Mercury Racing two-stroke engines.

Option 2 (91995) — ARP L19 Rod Bolts Mercury OEM Part Number 10-91995f or 5250 "Big" Rods (Top or Bottom Guided)
The 10-91995 ARP L19 Rod Bolt is designed specifically for Mercury's larger 5250 Big Rod connecting rods.
Like the 10-848475, this bolt utilizes a 12-point 3/8-inch socket head, but measures approximately 1-inch overall length to accommodate the larger 5250 rod design and increased beam thickness.
The additional bolt length is necessary to achieve proper thread engagement and clamp load within the larger rod assembly. Combined with ARP's L19 material, the 10-91995 provides exceptional durability for offshore, drag racing, lake-race, and high-performance Mercury V6 applications.

Quick Identification Guide
During teardown, one of the easiest ways to identify the correct bolt is by measuring overall length. Both fasteners utilize a 12-point 3/8-inch socket head design, but the 10-848475 measures approximately 7/8-inch long, while the 10-91995 measures approximately 1-inch long.
Although similar in appearance, the bolts are designed for different connecting rod assemblies and should not be interchanged. Engines equipped with 818141 top-guided rods require the 10-848475, while engines utilizing 5250 Big Rods require the 10-91995 version.
Because many Mercury Racing engines have been rebuilt, modified, or upgraded over the years, visual identification of the connecting rods during teardown is always recommended before ordering replacement hardware.
Whether you're rebuilding a Mercury Racing 260 EFI, 280 ROS, 300 Drag, S3000, Formula 1, SST-120, offshore engine, or a custom high-performance Mercury V6, rod bolts are not an area where shortcuts should be taken.
Buckshot Racing #77 offers the correct ARP L19 fastener for both Mercury's legendary 818141 top-guided rods and the later 5250 Big Rods, providing the strength and reliability required for today's high-performance two-stroke engines.
When protecting a valuable crankshaft, block, and rotating assembly, premium rod bolts are inexpensive insurance compared to the cost of a major engine failure.
