Stainless Socket Head Hardware for 2.0L, 2.4L & 2.5L Horizontal Reed Plates
The 19-Piece Buckshot Racing #77 Mercury V6 Reed Plate Bolt Kit is a complete replacement hardware set for compatible Mercury and Mariner 2.0L, 2.4L and 2.5L V6 two-stroke outboards using a horizontal reed plate.
This kit replaces applications associated with Mercury 76630, 28668, 39143, and 8M0214943 and is ideal for rebuilding an intake system or replacing corroded, damaged, or mismatched original hardware.
Each kit includes eight 1/4" x 1" stainless-steel socket-head screws and eight 1/4" mil-spec stainless-steel washers, enough to service one compatible Mercury V6 reed plate assembly.
Mercury 2.0L, 2.4L & 2.5L Applications
The 76630 / 28668 / 39143 / 8M0214943 Reed Plate Bolt Kit fits many Mercury V6 engines using the factory-style horizontal reed plate and 1/4-inch mounting hardware.
Common applications include SST-120, XR4, XR6, XRi, 175 HP, 200 HP and 225 Pro Max, along with other Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing 2.0L, 2.4L and 2.5L V6 engines using the same horizontal reed-front configuration.
Because Mercury used several intake and front-half designs, fitment should be confirmed by the existing reed plate and bolt configuration rather than horsepower alone. Earlier vertical-reed engines and specialized racing front halves may use different hardware.
Why Reed Plate Hardware Matters
The reed plate is part of the intake path between the carburetors or EFI system and the crankcase. Its fasteners must provide even clamping pressure so the plate and gasket remain properly sealed.
Damaged threads, incorrect bolt lengths or uneven tightening can reduce sealing pressure and potentially create an intake-side air leak. On a two-stroke outboard, that can contribute to poor idle quality, hesitation or an inconsistent fuel mixture.
Replacing all eight fasteners as a matched set helps maintain consistent hardware length, washer thickness and clamping force across the reed plate.
Stainless Socket-Head Construction
The kit uses 1/4" x 1" stainless socket-head screws for corrosion resistance and positive tool engagement during assembly.
Eight matching 1/4-inch mil-spec stainless washers distribute the clamping load beneath the bolt heads and protect the reed plate mounting surface.
This makes the kit a clean replacement for older Mercury 76630, 28668, 39143 and 8M0214943 hardware during routine service or a complete V6 powerhead rebuild.
Buckshot Racing #77 Installation Tech Tip
Before installation, remove old gasket material and inspect the reed plate and mating surfaces for corrosion, damage or distortion. Check the threaded holes and make sure each bolt starts smoothly by hand.
Install all eight fasteners loosely before final tightening, then tighten them gradually in an alternating pattern so the reed plate seats evenly.
Use the Mercury factory service manual torque specification for the exact engine and reed plate. Do not use a generic torque value based only on the 1/4-inch bolt size.
