Buckshot Racing #77 offers a newly developed 16-AMP stator engineered to meet the electrical and mechanical requirements of Mercury 2-Stroke V6 outboards produced between 1976 and 1999.
This stator is manufactured in Huntsville, Alabama, in the facility originally established by CDI Electronics and now operated by Sierra Marine, a manufacturer recognized for marine-grade electrical components produced under ISO 9001:2015 certified quality systems.
The stator delivers a 16-AMP output, supporting both standard and high-demand charging systems. It is fully compatible with Mercury 2-Stroke V6 engines, including the 135 HP, 150 HP, 175 HP, 200 HP, 220 Laser, Brideports, SST-140, SST-120, 245 Crab, 260 EFI, XRI, XR2, XR4, and also XR6 and 225 Pro Max motors with race flywheels (Factor or Billet). Supported displacement ranges include 2.0 Liters, 2.4 Liters, and 2.5 Liters (converted to 16-AMP Charging Systems) powerheads. The design accommodates both steel and lightweight aluminum 16-amp flywheels, making it suitable for a wide range of OEM and performance applications.
This unit is a direct replacement for Mercury OEM part number 398-5454-A35, and it is backward-compatible with earlier part numbers such as 398-5454A66, A36, A34, A33, A32, and others. It is also cross-referenced with aftermarket equivalents 5456-16, 9-25504, and 18-5860, offering full interchangeability across multiple configurations within the Mercury 2-stroke platform.
The stator features a non-potted, open-wound construction, which offers technical advantages over traditional potted designs. By avoiding epoxy encapsulation, this configuration enables more effective thermal dissipation, which reduces internal temperatures during sustained operation.
This thermal behavior results in lower long-term heat stress, contributing to increased service life. In addition, the open-wound format allows for easier inspection and potential rewinding, providing maintainability benefits.
The design also yields a lighter overall mass without compromising mechanical durability. These properties improve reliability in continuous-duty environments and under thermal cycling, such as in racing and high-output marine applications.
U.S.-based manufacturing provides additional control over material traceability, process consistency, and dimensional tolerances. Parts are produced and tested under ISO-standard procedures, ensuring alignment with performance specifications and compatibility standards required in marine ignition systems.
This stator is designed to restore or improve performance in legacy Mercury platforms while maintaining electrical integrity and thermal stability across a wide range of use cases.
