This 32-piece Mercury Racing Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel Rebuild Bolt Kit is a precision-engineered replacement solution for the Mercury Racing Lightweight Aluminum 16 AMP Flywheels, part numbers 6080A41 LH and 6080A42 RH.
Designed for demanding marine performance applications, this kit delivers exceptional tensile strength, superior corrosion resistance, and exact fitment to meet or exceed OEM standards. Each fastener has been manufactured to precise industry specifications to ensure secure, long-lasting performance in high-RPM, saltwater environments.
The kit replaces all critical flywheel hardware, including eight (8) center hub bolts, twelve (12) outer flexplate bolts, and twelve (12) military-spec jet nuts.
The center hub bolts are produced to ASTM B633 Type II standards, zinc-plated, and finished with a durable yellow chromate conversion coating. This treatment provides enhanced corrosion resistance and a minimum 96-hour salt spray rating, ideal for extended marine use.
The outer flexplate bolts, manufactured to ASME B18.3 specifications, are high-strength socket head cap screws finished in black oxide for additional wear protection. With a minimum tensile strength of 170,000 psi, these bolts outperform SAE Grade 8 fasteners by more than 20,000 psi, ensuring reliable clamping under extreme loads.
Complementing them are the outer jet nuts, precision-made self-locking hexagon steel nuts with a 0.19-inch thread size. These nuts feature cadmium plating with a chromate conversion coating, a soluble lubricant for consistent torque application, and an all-metal prevailing torque locking feature to resist loosening under vibration.
The kit replaces both the OEM hex head and/or socket head center hub bolts found on the 2.5 Liters, as well as the center hub studs found on the earlier 2.0 and 2.4 Liter flywheels ,
Installation is straightforward yet precise. It is recommended to replace each bolt individually without fully disassembling the hub and flexplate assembly.
Follow a star-pattern tightening sequence to evenly distribute clamping force. For best results, torque the center hub bolts to 20 ft-lbs with a drop of Loctite RED 271 threadlocker applied, while the outer bolts should be torqued to 25 inch-lbs.
