Unlike later Mercury “studs-down” midsection designs, these are the shorter studs used on the early upward-mounted powerhead configuration found on lightweight Mercury Racing competition platforms.
Manufactured from aerospace-grade Ti-6Al-4V titanium, these studs provide exceptional strength while reducing weight by approximately 45% compared to stainless steel and roughly 55% compared to conventional alloy steel.
To further improve durability and corrosion protection, each titanium stud receives an advanced Rainbow PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating. This ultra-hard coating helps reduce thread galling, improve torque consistency, increase wear resistance, and protect the titanium surface from corrosion and repeated service damage in harsh offshore and racing environments.
The low-friction PVD surface also helps provide smoother and more accurate torque application during assembly.
The reduced fastener weight helps lower stress on the powerhead mounting system while improving corrosion resistance and long-term durability in harsh marine racing environments.
Each stud is precision-machined with rolled threads for improved fatigue resistance and features a broached internal 5/32-inch Allen hex drive for easier installation and removal without damaging the threads or aluminum mounting surfaces.
