The Bearing Carrier Retainer Nut Wrench Tool from Buckshot Racing #77 is a precision-machined spanner wrench built for professional servicing of Mercury Marine standard 1" Prop Shaft gearcases.

Designed for the secure removal and installation of the threaded bearing carrier retainer cover nut, this tool is a direct-fit replacement for Mercury OEM part numbers 91-61069, 91-61069T, 59553, and is also equivalent to WSM 983-110GLM 90190, Sierra 18-9858 and Pro Marine USA 9858P.

This wrench is compatible with a wide range of Mercury and Mariner outboard motors using 2.0L, 2.4L, 2.5L, 3.0L,  and 6-cylinder gearcases.

Supported models include the V-135, V-140, V-150, V-175, V-200, V-225, and V-250, across both EFI and CARB platforms.

It also fits commercial and high-output engines such as the 225 SEAPRO (3.0L CARB), 225 Marathon, and the full line of Pro XS models including the 150, 175, 200, and 250 HP Pro XS with both 2.5L and 3.0L configurations. Engines under the XR-2, XR-4, XR-6, Magnum III, and JET series (including the 140 JET) are also covered.

Notably, this tool is fully compatible with Mercury Racing’s 2.4 CLE (Crescent Leading Edge) gearcases—making it a must-have for builders and technicians working on competition or high-speed recreational setups.

These performance gearcases, commonly found on modified V6 outboards and race-prepped applications, use the same threaded bearing carrier design, requiring precise engagement and high-torque capability for service.

Beyond outboards, the Buckshot Racing bearing carrier wrench also fits the full line of MerCruiser sterndrives, including the Alpha One, Alpha One Gen II, Pre-Alpha (R/MR), Bravo One, Bravo outdrives. Its marine-grade steel construction and hardened engagement tabs provide the durability needed for saltwater conditions and seized components.

The tool also serves a secondary purpose—it acts as the drive interface for the Buckshot Racing Thread Chaser Gearcase Repair Tool. When gearcase threads become damaged due to corrosion, over-torquing, or mechanical wear, the thread chaser can be inserted into the lower unit and rotated using this same wrench to restore proper thread pitch and function.

This makes it a dual-use tool essential for lower unit rebuilds and gearcase repair without the need to replace the full housing.

How to Use the Buckshot Racing Bearing Carrier Wrench 61069T

Begin by removing the propeller and draining gear oil from the lower unit.

Disassemble the propeller shaft assembly and remove any snap rings or thrust washers.

Insert the Buckshot Racing wrench into the gearcase cavity, aligning its hardened lugs with the notches on the bearing carrier retainer nut.

Apply steady torque with a breaker bar or torque wrench—taking care to avoid slippage.

If the nut is seized or corroded, pre-treat with penetrating oil and use heat as needed.

To reinstall, reverse the process and torque the retainer nut to OEM specifications (typically 150–200 ft-lbs, depending on model).

When used as a driver for the Thread Chaser, simply insert the chaser tool into the damaged threads and turn this wrench with cutting oil to restore clean, functional threads for reinstallation.

From saltwater utility motors to high-RPM race builds, the Buckshot Racing Bearing Carrier Retainer Nut Wrench Tool is engineered for professional marine technicians, performance builders, and seasoned DIY users.

With compatibility across Mercury, Mariner, Force (post-1991), and select Yamaha and Tohatsu/Nissan gearcases, including high-performance units 1" Prop Shaft CLE, it’s the go-to tool to replace the 91-61069T for efficient lower unit service.
