The Quick Strike High-Performance Ignition Kit by CDI Electronics is designed to significantly enhance the ignition performance of Mercury, Marine Mercury Hi-Performance, Mercury Racing, and Mariner outboard engines (1976–2001, 135-260 HP, 16-amp systems).
By replacing stock ignition components with advanced CDI technology, this kit provides hotter, more consistent sparks and precise timing for better combustion efficiency, power output, and reliability. It is particularly suited for high-RPM performance, where legacy OEM ignition systems often struggle.
At the core of the system are the 214-7778-R2 switch boxes, engineered for operation beyond 7,000 RPM—exceeding the capabilities of earlier OEM systems. These replace stock part numbers 332-7778-A2, 332-7778-A4, 332-7778-A6, and are comparable to 332-7778-A14.
The Quick Strike circuitry ensures faster spark delivery with reduced delay and minimal timing drift, a key improvement over OEM designs that often falter at high engine speeds. This ensures quicker combustion, smoother throttle response, and reduced misfires during high-load operation.
The kit’s 274-5456-S15 stator generates stable power for both ignition and charging. With dual windings optimized for low and high RPM ranges, it provides consistent energy to the switch boxes, outperforming legacy OEM stators prone to voltage instability at higher speeds.
Built from marine-grade materials, it withstands harsh environments, offering greater durability and reliability over earlier designs.
Timing precision is managed by the 134-6456 trigger, which accurately synchronizes ignition with piston movement via signals from the flywheel. Its higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to older OEM triggers reduce engine knock and improve efficiency. This is particularly critical in high-RPM scenarios where minor timing errors can significantly degrade performance.
Compared to earlier OEM ignition systems, the 214-7778-K2 delivers a higher-energy spark, reducing fouling and improving combustion. OEM systems often struggle to maintain spark intensity at high speeds, leading to incomplete combustion, lower power output, and increased emissions.
The CDI system’s faster spark rise time ensures precise ignition timing, reducing misfires and improving throttle response.
Installation requires ensuring clean, secure connections and proper flywheel alignment. Voltage testing with a DVA meter confirms component functionality before finalizing. With superior materials and construction, the system offers durability under moisture, salt, and vibration—common challenges for older OEM systems.
Field performance shows marked improvements over legacy stock setups, including smoother throttle response, and faster starts, as does the Mercury A11 Trigger, A36 Stator, and A14 switchboxes.
These upgrades make the CDI Electronics 214-7778-K2 Quick Strike Kit an easy replacement for outdated OEM ignition systems, offering superior performance and reliability for high-demand marine applications.
Each Quick Strike Kit includes one (1) Stator 5456-S15, one (1) Trigger 6456, and two (2) Switchboxes 7778-R2 . (CDI MSRP $1,311.99)
