Using the Flywheel Puller
To remove the flywheel, begin by securely mounting the engine on a stand or transom and disconnecting any electrical components attached to the flywheel. Thread the black oxide flywheel puller onto the flywheel’s 1 1/2" - 16 thread center hole, ensuring it is fully seated.
Insert the crankshaft protective slug into the crankshaft hole to prevent damage during the operation. Next, thread the Grade 8 pusher bolt into the puller. Using a wrench, apply steady and even torque to the pusher bolt until the flywheel begins to disengage from the crankshaft.
If the flywheel does not release, apply a penetrating lubricant around the hub and repeat the process. Once free, carefully remove the flywheel and place it on a clean surface to avoid damage.
Using the Powerhead Lifting Tool
After flywheel removal, thread the lifting ring/eye into the same flywheel center hole. Confirm that the lifting eye is fully tightened to ensure stability. Attach an engine hoist or lifting crane securely to the lifting ring.
Ensure all bolts securing the powerhead to the midsection or lower unit have been removed before proceeding.
Slowly lift the powerhead, maintaining balance and avoiding sudden movements. For reinstallation, reverse the steps while adhering to torque specifications for all bolts.
