The Buckshot Racing #77 Fuel Injector Micro Filter Screen Removal Tool Kit is designed to safely remove internal micro filter screens from Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing fuel injectors during cleaning and rebuilding procedures.

The kit includes two (2) different removal tools, allowing it to service multiple injector filter sizes commonly found across Mercury EFI systems.

How to Use?

Because Mercury injectors use different internal basket filter diameters depending on injector style and production year, a single removal tool will not properly fit every injector. This kit solves that problem by including both a small and a large filter removal tool, allowing users to select the correct tool based on the size of the injector’s internal filter basket.

Before removal, the injector inlet should be inspected visually. The correct tool is the one that fits snugly into the center of the filter basket without excessive force or looseness. Using the properly sized tool helps ensure the filter can be extracted cleanly without damaging the injector body or distorting the inlet.

Why Change Filter Screens?

Fuel injector micro filters are the final point of protection before fuel enters the injector. Over time, these filters collect varnish, contamination, ethanol residue, and fine debris that may pass through the fuel system. As restrictions increase, injector flow becomes inconsistent, which can lead to lean cylinders, hesitation, poor idle quality, and high-RPM fuel delivery problems.

This is especially important on Mercury Marine EFI and Mercury Racing engines, where balanced injector flow is critical for maintaining proper air/fuel ratios and protecting high-performance 2-stroke powerheads.

The Buckshot Racing #77 removal tools are specifically designed to safely engage and remove these delicate basket filters without the damage often caused by improvised methods such as picks, screws, or sharp tools.

Proper removal is critical during ultrasonic injector cleaning and rebuild procedures because damage to the injector inlet can affect sealing and long-term performance.

The kit is compatible with many Mercury EFI applications, including Laser EFI systems, Mercury Racing EFI injectors, and numerous 2.0, 2.4, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.2 liter EFI platforms commonly used in performance boating.

When servicing injectors, the injector exterior should first be cleaned thoroughly to prevent debris from entering the injector during disassembly. Once the correct removal tool is selected based on filter screen size, the tool is carefully inserted into the injector inlet and engaged with the filter basket. The filter can then be gently extracted using steady pressure without twisting or excessive force.

After removal, injectors should be professionally cleaned, inspected, and flow tested before installing new micro filters, seals, and pintle caps. Proper injector maintenance helps restore balanced fuel delivery, improve throttle response, and maintain reliable engine performance.

The compact design and dual-tool configuration make the Buckshot Racing #77 Fuel Injector Micro Filter Removal Tool Kit suitable for both professional injector servicing and experienced DIY enthusiasts working on Mercury EFI systems.

At Buckshot Racing #77, we continue to support Mercury EFI and Mercury Racing platforms with specialized tools, technical support, and performance parts designed to keep these engines operating at their best.
