The replacement 26-89238A2 Standard Gearcase Seal Kit is intended for fishing and standard V6 gearcases and serves as a direct replacement for Mercury OEM part number 26-89238A2.
It supports both 4-3/4" and 4-1/4" diameter lower units and is compatible with preload pin and non-preload pin designs alike. Typical applications include standard Mercury fishing lower units, Fleetmaster gearcases, 150 HP, 200 HP, XR4, and XR6 gearcases.
Every seal, O-ring, and gasket in this kit is selected to match OEM specifications for dimensions, sealing interfaces, and materials. The components are engineered to withstand sustained gear lube pressure, the constant risk of water intrusion, and the thermal cycling and mechanical loads encountered in regular Mercury V6 operation.

It is designed for gearcases that are routinely subjected to high engine RPM, elevated propeller loads, and frequent teardown and inspection for racing or serious performance use.
Like the standard kit, the 26-89238A3 package includes all critical seals needed for a complete reseal of the gearcase. Each component is manufactured for precise fit and long-term durability, enabling the gearcase to maintain proper oil retention and effective water exclusion even at high speeds and high RPM.
If you operate a Mercury Sportmaster or Torquemaster lower unit on a 2.0L, 2.4L, or 2.5L V6 performance outboard, this is the kit you will rely on for both periodic reseals and full rebuilds.
Big Bearing Prop Shaft Applications – Seal 26-815565
Certain high-performance configurations require special attention at the prop shaft. For CLE (Crescent Leading Edge) and Sportmaster lower units equipped with big bearing prop shafts, this is an internal measurement, not the outer 1" or 1.25" shaft measurement. In these cases, you must use the Big Prop Shaft Seal, Part Number 26-815565, in place of the standard seal.
This larger-diameter seal in included in our A3 kit and also offered here on Buckshot Racing #77 website. This is the correct seal for resealing 2.4L CLE gearcases, 2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.2L Sportmaster and Torquemaster gearcases with the big bearing prop shafts.
