Stock fishing or bass mid studs don't fit? This is a 15-piece stud kit for a Mercury 2.5 Liter ROS (Race Off Shore) 15" or 20" mid-section with the thicker Exhaust Can.
 
The 2.81-inch 7/16" lower + mid stud, originally Mercury part number 16-59579 and replaced by 8M2016987, has a total length of 2.812 inches. Its slightly longer length enhances stability, making it ideal for 2.5 Liter Sportmasters and 2.4 Liter CLEs operating under challenging conditions.
 
The kit includes five (5) 7/16" studs (59579) with two (2) that mount in the can and three (3) that mount in the lower unit, five (5) thick OEM spec case hardened washers (59579), and five (5) new stainless lock nuts (859116). 
 
Lower unit studs are critical to the operation of Mercury High Performance Outboard. They securely anchor the lower unit, gearcase, and jetdrive, ensuring alignment and stability under torque and harsh marine conditions.
 
Loose, corroded, galled, or incorrect studs can cause the lower unit or gearcase to loosen, potentially leading to severe damage, such as broken midsections, cavitation plates, propellers, driveshafts, or lower units.
