The Mercury 17514A2 connecting rod bearing is a Genuine OEM Mercury / Quicksilver crankshaft-end rod bearing used across a broad range of Mercury two-stroke outboards.

The 17514A2 uses a plastic cage with precision needle rollers to support the connecting rod on the crankshaft journal. Proper roller spacing and bearing condition are critical because this assembly carries combustion and inertia loads every time the engine operates.

Broad Mercury Outboard Fitment

The 17514A2 bearing family is used across several generations of Mercury two-stroke engines, from smaller two- and three-cylinder outboards through larger V6 powerheads.

Mercury 2-Cylinder Outboards

Compatible applications include selected 30 HP and 40 HP 2-cylinder Mercury outboards.

Mercury used several crankshaft and connecting-rod arrangements during production, so the original bearing number and engine serial number should always be checked before ordering.

Mercury 3-Cylinder Outboards

The same bearing family is used in selected 30 HP, 40 HP, 50 HP, 55 HP, and 60 HP 3-cylinder Mercury two-stroke outboards.

Selected 60 HP BigFoot applications also use this bearing family where the crankshaft and rod assembly match.

Mercury Jet Outboards

The 17514A2 is also found in selected Mercury Jet powerheads, including compatible 30 Jet, 40 Jet, and 45 Jet applications.

These engines use Mercury two-stroke powerheads combined with jet-drive lower units, so many internal powerhead components are shared with corresponding propeller-driven models.

Mercury SportJet Applications

Selected 200 DFI SportJet and M2 Jet Drive powerheads are also included in the broader 17514-series bearing application family.

SportJet fitment should be confirmed using the powerhead serial number because Mercury commonly cataloged the powerhead and jet-drive assembly separately.

Mercury V6 Production Outboards

The bearing family is widely used throughout classic Mercury V6 production engines, including selected V-135, V-150, V-175, and V-200 applications.

Additional models include compatible V-1500, V-150 XR2, V-150 Magnum, V-150 Marathon, V-150 Work, XR2, XR4 / Magnum II, XR6, V-175 Magnum, V-175 XRi and V-200 XRi configurations.

Later 2.5 liter production applications include selected 135 HP V6, 150 HP V6 and 175 HP V6 Mercury outboards, along with compatible 2.5L Jet and Pro XS-family applications where the original connecting-rod assembly calls for this bearing.

Genuine OEM Mercury Construction

The 17514A2 is a Genuine OEM Mercury / Quicksilver bearing with a factory plastic cage and precision needle rollers.

The cage keeps the rollers evenly positioned around the crankshaft journal while the rollers carry load between the connecting rod and crankshaft.

During engine service, inspect the rollers and cage for pitting, flat spots, cracking, scoring, discoloration, or excessive wear. The crankshaft journal and connecting rod bearing surface should also be inspected before reassembly.

Package Quantity

Each package contains one pair of two (2) bearing halves. Note: A Mercury 3-cylinder uses one pair per connecting rod, so a complete six-cylinder engine requires three (3) pairs total.

Smaller 2-cylinder and 3-cylinder engines require the appropriate quantity based on the number of connecting rods being serviced.

Fitment Verification

Mercury used several connecting rod, crankshaft, and bearing combinations across these engine families. Horsepower alone should not be used to confirm fitment.

Before ordering, verify the original bearing number, engine serial number, connecting rod assembly, and crankshaft configuration.

This is especially important on older Mercury outboards because internal components may have been changed during previous rebuilds.

The Mercury 17514A2 Genuine OEM Plastic-Cage Connecting Rod Bearing provides broad service coverage across many classic Mercury two-stroke engines, from 30 and 40 HP 2-cylinder models through 30–60 HP 3-cylinder outboards, Jet and SportJet applications, and 135–200 HP V6 production engines.
