Accurate ignition timing is essential for performance and reliability in Mercury 2-stroke V6 outboards, especially models like the 2.0L, 2.4L, and 2.5L engines found in the 150, 175, 200 HP series, as well as performance platforms like the 225 Pro Max, 260 ROS, Mod VP, Bridgeport, S3000, and 300 Drag.

 

The Super Timing Magnet by Buckshot Racing #77 converts Mercury 16 amp, 40 amp, and Racing flywheels into precise degree wheels, enabling cylinder-by-cylinder timing verification. This allows tuners to detect and correct timing inconsistencies caused by crank deflection, ignition system variation, or mapping irregularities—critical for synchronized combustion and power delivery.

 

Paired with the Buckshot Racing Dial Indicator, tuners can accurately locate Top Dead Center on each cylinder. This eliminates reliance on factory marks or indirect methods and ensures true mechanical TDC for reference. Once set, the Super Timing Magnet provides a permanent indexed degree scale visible during engine operation for use with a dial-back timing light.

 

This combination is especially effective on high-performance or race-prepped engines like SST-120s, S3000s, and EFI or multi-carb setups, where timing drift across cylinders can lead to detonation, poor throttle balance, or reduced top-end power.
