The Mercury High-Performance Throttle Return Spring 24-8484702 and Retainer Clip 53-78201 are components designed for high-performance marine engines produced by Mercury Racing, a division of Mercury Marine.
 
This extension spring is specifically used in the throttle assembly of 1976 to 2005 Mercury V6 outboards and found stock on the SST-120, SST-140, 225HP Pro Max, 225 Super Magnum, 245 HP Carb, 260 EFI, 280 ROS, 300 Drag, F1, and S3000 in addition to the foot throttle spring.
 
The primary function of this spring is to ensure that the throttle returns to its idle position when the foot throttle is released. This helps maintain control over the engine's speed and helps safer operation. 
 
Our spring is a 302 stainless steel corrosion-resistant extension spring with hook ends. It is Made in the USA by a company that's been manufacturing springs since the early 1900s!
 
Our replacement for the Mercury 24-8484702 (MSRP $73.21) Spring attaches to the head bolt-mounted retainer clip ring washer NLA part number 53-78201 (MSRP $23.75) and the throttle arm. The other end of the spring can be attached to the throttle arm with a small 1/8" hole.
