Like the press-fit kit, these rebuild pieces are intentionally manufactured slightly oversized to allow custom hand fitting during installation. Light sanding is required to properly match the existing linkage assembly and achieve smooth linkage movement with proper rolling resistance.
This custom-fit approach allows the installer to eliminate unwanted looseness while restoring smooth, controlled throttle operation and accurate carb synchronization.
Kit 2 — Press-In Ball Shaft Linkage Rebuild Kit
The Press-In Ball Shaft Linkage Rebuild Kit includes three replacement linkage pieces designed to rebuild the OEM Mercury throttle linkage assembly.
This kit includes two replacement linkage pieces for Mercury OEM part number 181811 along with one replacement stud shaft linkage piece for Mercury OEM part number 18181. These components are designed to fit the existing Mercury throttle linkage assembly using OEM Mercury part number 825204A1.
This version retains the original Mercury press-in ball shaft design. During installation, the existing OEM ball shafts must be removed from the original linkage pieces and transferred into the new fused carbon fiber rebuild components.
For additional retention and long-term security, epoxy may also be used during ball shaft installation if desired.
The rebuild kit continues using the original OEM Mercury roller, part number 18178, which is not included with the kit.
To allow proper fitting and smooth throttle operation, the stud shaft area is intentionally manufactured slightly oversized. Light hand sanding is required during installation to achieve the correct rolling resistance and desired throttle feel. This allows the installer to custom-fit the linkage while minimizing looseness and excessive free play.
